Profile - Meena Deora

Meena Deora, born 1960, lives and works in Delhi.

She obtained her art education under the tutelage of the noted artist Rameshwar Broota at Triveni Kala Sangam.
She was granted a scholarship by the Department of Art and Culture, Government of India in 1985 and continued experimenting with her work through the 80’s. Her painting was conferred the best work award by sahitya kala parisad in 1998.
She has proven her prowess in the fields of painting as well as graphic art and participated in several nationally acclaimed shows.

Meena’s paintings show the triumph of human optimism. In a wonderful positive mode and shows individual’s qualities of collectiveness, and taking the lowest common denominator as the average mean, she makes the outlook grow larger, better, brighter and stronger.

A group of human beings in their primal innocence are seen moving towards a higher goal. Their faith is absolute and their hope is implied in the pointing limbs. The thrusting and reaching men are set against pulsating background.

The surface texture built by layers of colour resonates with the implied energy of painting. The painted skin has a prickled physicality with the paint lines resembling the stretch and slackness of actual human skin.
There is unity even amongst the diversified human beings.

The paintings helps to think of individuals as contributing to a better future as they race forward unhesitatingly. Their every experience fuels their momentum.

Meena has held exhibition of her works at Shridharani Art Gallery organized by Threshold Art Gallery, Palette Art Gallery, Visual Art Gallery, Art Junction, Alternative Gallery, Mati Ghar IGNCA, Art Today, Bharat Bhawan, Lalit Kala Academy, Pundole Art Gallery, Freedom Art Gallery (all in India), ISU International Art Gallery (Singapore) and Convention Centre (Dubai); India-Korea Contemporary Art Exhibition and Osian’s Art Auctions.

Meena has attended art camps in Phuket, (Thailand), Almora, Patnitop, (Jammu & Kashmir), Puskar (Jaipur), Corbett Park, (Dhikuli), Manali, (Himachal Pradesh). Her works are in several private and public collections in several countries.
